Kiwi-made · coming soon to more clinics

Less typing. More doctoring.

Kakapo Health runs your video and in-room consults, transcribes them, and drafts the clinical letter — so you can look at your patient, not your keyboard. You check every word before it goes anywhere.

What it does

Four jobs. One cheerful tool.

The consult, the write-up and the letter — without six browser tabs and a dictaphone.

01

Video consults

Patients join from a link — no app, no account. They wait in a proper waiting room until you let them in.

  • Camera, mic, speaker and connection checked while they wait
  • Audio-only and background blur
  • Invite a partner, carer or interpreter
  • Drop-outs reconnect and rejoin the waiting room
02

In-person consults

Same tool, same room. Pick today’s patient and record on a laptop or phone.

  • Works in the browser — nothing to install
  • Uploads as you go, so nothing’s lost if the Wi-Fi sulks
  • Interrupted recordings can be recovered
03

AI scribe

After the consult, the recording is transcribed with speaker labels and turned into a structured clinical draft.

  • Medical transcription, doctor and patient told apart
  • Written in your clinic’s house style
  • Flags the bits it wants you to double-check
04

Letters

A clinical letter drafted from the consult, with the patient’s details filled in. You review, edit and send it.

  • Edit side by side with the transcript
  • One tap to file it to the patient record (Elixir)
  • Nothing is sent without you

The AI scribe

You talk. It takes the notes. You stay in charge.

Kakapo Health records the consult — audio only — and transcribes it afterwards with medical vocabulary and speaker labels. Then it drafts a structured letter in your clinic’s style, and tells you which bits to check.

  • Your clinic asks patients for consent before using the scribe
  • Draft, transcript and “please check” flags side by side
  • Already have a transcript from another tool? Paste it in and get a letter

Dr Acme: How have the night sweats been since we last spoke?
Jane: Much better — maybe twice a week now.
Dr Acme: Great. Let’s keep the same plan and review in three months.

Letters & patient details

The boring bits, done before you get there.

Kakapo Health matches each consult to the booking and fills in the patient’s details — name, date of birth, NHI and GP — from your practice system. If it isn’t sure, it fills in nothing and says so, rather than guessing.

  • New-patient and follow-up forms with autosave, GP and pharmacy search, and signature
  • Form answers written into the patient’s Elixir record
  • Reminders for unfinished forms, and a “ready for consult” list

How it works

Three steps. Zero dictaphones.

1

Start the consult

Your patient taps their link and waits for you — or they’re sitting right there and you hit record in the room.

2

Just talk

Have the conversation you’d have anyway. When you’re done, Kakapo Health transcribes it and drafts the letter.

3

Check, tweak, send

Read the draft, fix anything it flagged, file it to the patient record and send it on. Your name, your call.

Built by doctors, for doctors

Born in a real clinic, not a boardroom.

Kakapo Health started life inside Menodoctor, a New Zealand menopause clinic, as the tool its own doctors use to run consults and write letters. Every feature here began as a real clinic problem — patients stuck on a bad connection, letters waiting for details, forms that never came back.

Now we’re polishing it up for other clinics. If you’re tired of medical software that looks like a tax return, we’d love to hear from you.

Privacy & security

Health information deserves grown-up care.

Your clinic stays responsible for its patients’ health information — Kakapo Health is the tool you use to hold and handle it, carefully. Here’s the short version.

Audio only, kept in Auckland

Consults are recorded as audio, not video. Recordings, transcripts and draft letters are stored in Auckland, encrypted at rest.

A human signs off

Your doctor reviews every AI-drafted letter and files it themselves. Nothing is sent automatically.

Locked down

Encrypted in transit and at rest. Staff sign in to a separate, access-controlled console, and each doctor can only open their own room.

FAQ

Good questions. Straight answers.

Can my clinic use Kakapo Health now?

Not quite yet. Kakapo Health runs consults at Menodoctor, the New Zealand clinic it was built for, and we’re getting it ready for other clinics. Register interest and we’ll be in touch.

Do patients need to download an app?

No. Patients open a link and join in Safari or Chrome on their phone, tablet or computer. Before you let them in, the waiting room checks their camera, microphone, speaker and connection, so you spend less time on “can you hear me?”.

Does it work for face-to-face consults too?

Yes. Pick the patient from today’s list and record on a laptop or phone browser in the room. Audio is uploaded in small pieces as you go, and an interrupted recording can be recovered.

Does the AI write live notes during the consult?

Not today. Kakapo Health transcribes the recording after the consult, then drafts the letter. That keeps you looking at your patient, not a scrolling transcript.

Will the AI send anything without me?

No. Every draft letter waits for you. You read it, edit it, and you decide when it’s filed to the patient record and sent. The draft highlights anything it wants you to double-check.

Do patients get asked about recording?

Your clinic asks for your consent before using the scribe — that’s part of the clinic’s process. If you’d rather it wasn’t used, tell your clinic or your doctor. More on How we handle your data.

Which practice management systems does it work with?

Today it connects with Elixir: patient details flow into letters, and finished letters are filed to the patient’s Elixir record when you tap “File to Elixir”. Using something else? Tell us — it helps us decide what to build next.

Where is our data stored?

We’ve written this up properly, including which services process what, and where: see How we handle your data.

Does Kakapo Health give medical advice?

No. It’s a consult and documentation tool. It doesn’t diagnose or recommend treatment — the clinician is responsible for every note and letter.

Who’s behind it?

Kakapo Health is made in New Zealand by Rebellion Digital, the team that built it for Menodoctor.
